Students and faculty from HCMUT and the VNU-HCM High School for the Gifted at the introductory session of CSE/HCMUT and the CSE Summer School 2025.

On May 9, 2025, the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), VNU-HCM, held an introductory session at the VNU-HCM High School for the Gifted to present an overview of CSE/HCMUT and officially launch the second edition of the CSE Summer School. The event aimed to inspire high school students to explore the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence, while also providing a glimpse into university life at HCMUT. This year’s program builds on the success of the 2024 bootcamp on Large Language Models, which resulted in a paper accepted at the AIED 2025 A-ranked international conference.

This year’s program is centered on the theme of AI Agents and spans three full days of activities. The kickoff began with a warm and insightful introduction by Assoc. Prof. Quan Thanh Tho, who presented an overview of HCMUT. He highlighted the university’s 11 faculties, its bilingual Vietnamese-English programs, and a wide range of international exchange opportunities. More importantly, he shared the vibrant academic and cultural environment that defines student life at HCMUT. He also emphasized the importance of summer initiatives like CSE Summer, which foster learning, connection, and personal growth. Special recognition was given to the K24 – HCMUT student group and a pair of twin students, whose inspiring journeys into the university resonated with the audience.

Assoc. Prof. Quan Thanh Tho delivers an engaging introduction to HCMUT and CSE, highlighting academic opportunities and the vibrant student life that awaits future university students.

Following this, Dr. Nguyen Duc Dung introduced students to the various research directions within the CSE faculty. He provided an overview of several active research groups working in fields such as artificial intelligence, software engineering, embedded systems, and computer networks. Through real-world examples, Dr. Dung illustrated how these groups tackle complex challenges in both academia and industry. His talk offered students a clearer understanding of how research is structured at the faculty and how they could become involved in future projects.

Mr. Nguyen Song Thien Long demonstrates the power of AI agents through a live session featuring chatbot interaction, language translation, and virtual outfit transformation using AI technology.

The highlight of the event was a live demonstration by Mr. Nguyen Song Thien Long, showcasing the capabilities of AI agents in real time. The demo featured an AI chatbot answering university admissions questions, translating a sentence from Vietnamese into the Bahnaric language, and performing a virtual outfit transformation — turning a photo of a formal black suit into a luxurious Louis Vuitton look using AI-powered try-on technology. The demonstration brought the possibilities of AI to life and sparked enthusiasm among the students.

The event concluded with a call to action, encouraging participants to stay curious, embrace new challenges, and fully engage in the learning journey ahead.
