On January 7th, 2024, Professor Dam Khanh Hoa revisited the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), renewing a fruitful history of collaboration with the institution. During this visit, he presented his latest work that highlighted the dynamic intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and software engineering, fields in which he has made significant contributions to the industry.
In his presentation, Professor Hoa discussed several key initiatives and projects pushing the boundaries of AI in software engineering. One notable project is “MicroRec: Leveraging Large Language Models for Microservice Recommendation,” which improves software development practices by utilizing advanced AI models, improving system recommendations and decision-making processes. Furthermore, he also expanded on AI’s role in identifying and repaying technical debts, a common dilemma in software development that affects the agility and evolution of software systems. His approach highlights the significance of integrating AI to manage and alleviate these debts, thereby optimizing development workflows.
The application of AI extends beyond software engineering, finding critical relevance in environmental management – a field Professor Hoa has collaborated with HCMUT in the past. His projects aimed at improving environmental management strategies at Tram Chim National Park, which was hindered by inadequate and sporadic data surveys, but AI technology shows promise in enhancing data collection and informing better environmental management strategies.
Remarkably, the presentation drew an impressive lineup of distinguished attendees, including Assoc. Prof. Pham Tran Vu, Vice-President of HCMUT, Assoc. Prof. Quan Thanh Tho, Dean of HCMUT’s Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, and Dr. Truong Tuan Anh, Head of the Department of Software Engineering. Their participation is a testament to HCMUT’s exceptional commitment and enthusiastic endorsement of pioneering AI solutions to academic and industrial problems alike.
